When the front of the sanctuary was to be reconstructed to allow for a more flexible worship space, it was decided that making the organ moveable was to be an integral part of this vision. The organ, built in 1966 by the Keates Organ Company of Acton, Ontario, was operating on its original and increasingly unreliable switching.
The console was removed to our shop for rebuilding. It was completely refinished; new woodwork was fabricated for the console inserts, including figured walnut veneers on the stop jambs and music desk; new keyboards were constructed in-house; an integral dolly was built into the console frame; pedal keys were resurfaced; a control system by Classic Organ Works was installed.
Additionally, the new sanctuary stage improved the early reflections of the organ sound in the sanctuary. We took this opportunity to selectively revoice the stops of the Great chorus, creating a warmer, gentler principal sound that fills the room.
