In 2015 we were contracted to upgrade the console and the controls of this 5-manual Casavant, originally built in 1914 and rebuilt in 1952. In 2016, Casavant added an Antiphonal division, making this organ one of the 3 largest instruments in all of Canada.
The console woodwork was in horrible shape, having been sunk in a pit in the chancel for its 60-year life, and refinished once in place. It was completely stripped and refinished. Many new interior parts were fabricated, to accommodate a new stop layout and account for the new stops of the Antiphonal division. The pedal keys were rebuilt, a new toe stud rail was fabricated, and new piston slips and nameboard were constructed.
Additionally, the organ was placed on a hydraulic lift, so it can be lowered into its original chancel pit, or raised and rolled out to centre stage.
